A dowsing pendulum is an object suspended by a cord, used for obtaining information which the normal senses are unable to access on a conscious level. You could improvise with an everyday object, such as a pendant, a chain, a plumb bob or a ring on a thread. However, a purpose made pendulum is best because it has a shape and geometry, that is, a symmetry. This allows the swing to be more even and, more sensitive and therefore more effective. The pendulum, as an extension of the person using it, may be influenced both consciously and subconsciously making the responses accurate as well as inaccurate. Wishful thinking or a preconceived outcome, however slight, can be magnified making the use of the pendulum in that instance ineffective. The user must take steps to prevent this. Insufficiently specific questioning can result in senseless responses.

Different Style Pendulums For Different Purposes:

Gemstone pendulums are made from actual gemstones and not only do they contain the energies of the stones that they are made from, but they also are best suited for pendulum divination because these energies inside the stones will cause the pendulum to swing stronger giving you a more clear answer to your questions. Gemstones are also very pure forms of energy as long as they are properly cleansed.

Metal pendulums are often made from brass, chrome, pewter, or steel. These pendulums are the next best pendulums to use after gemstones as the magnetic energies that many of these metals provide can give a strong swing to your pendulum bringing more clarification to your answers.

Wood pendulums are made from various woods and are normally hand carved. Wood is not the best medium to use for pendulums since they do not hold energy rather well and can often be weak when they swing back and forth.

Egyptian pendulums are based on the design of the Ancient Egyptian 'ouadj' amulet, which was often tucked into the bandages of Egyptian mummies. It was apparently used to protect and guide the dead in the next world. Here's How To Choose A Pendulums:

Whatever pendulum type you use or decide to buy, make sure the pendulum is solid though not too heavy. The heavier your pendulum is, the harder it would be for it to swing. Like wise, you do not want a pendulum that is too light either.

Many people also like to use necklaces with pendants for pendulums. Even though this can be done and the jewelry will swing back and forth like a traditional pendulum, the SHAPE of the pendulum is a key reason why traditional pendulums are preferred over jewelry.

Traditional pendulums are shaped in a certain way to specifically aid with divination. Many pendulums are shaped to where they have a point at the end. This point represents the end of the channeling energies that are being passed from you(the diviner) to the pendulum.

If you use necklaces with pendants instead of an actual pendulum, you may find that your answers are inconsistent and wrong. Even though the energies are there making the necklace and pendant move like a pendulum, they are not being channeled correctly because the needed centered point is not there to complete the energy transfer.

For this reason it is best to use traditional pendulum shapes for your pendulums for most accurate results.

Step 2 Cleanse Your Pendulum

Once you have your pendulum of choice, it is always wise and advised to cleanse it before you perform any form of divination with it.

The easiest and most simple way to cleanse your pendulum would be to take some sage incense or a sage smudge stick and light them to where they are smoking well. Take your pendulum and pass it through the smoke several times. You can perform a prayer as you pass the pendulum through the smoke for added benefit if you choose.

Another way for cleansing would be to make up a salt water bath for it. If your pendulum is made from a gemstone this is a good method for cleansing. Take some cold water and mix it with some salt, preferably purification salts, though dead sea salt can also be used. Dunk your pendulum into the water several times and then when finished, dry it off very well.
For metal and wood pendulums this is not a good method as the salt can damage your pendulum, so the sage smoke cleansing method would be better suited for these pendulums.

Step 3 Use Your Pendulum

After you have cleansed your pendulum it is time for you to use it. Before you use a pendulum it is always best to ensure that you perform a protection ritual or spell before hand. The reasons for this is because when using any form of divination tools such as crystal balls, scrying mirrors, or pendulums, you are opening door ways not only to your subconscious, but also to the spirit world. Spirits often are summoned through divination whether intentionally or unintentionally to aid the seeker in finding their answers.

Even if you are not calling out to the spirits for aid, they will still be attracted to the divination tool because it is a doorway from their realm to ours and they often try to step through with or without our permission. This often leads to negative entities and demonic presences that can sometimes use these tools as a means to attack the seeker.

If you choose to neglect the protection ritual or spell, then be warned that you are at risk of attracting unwanted energies to you.

Take your pendulum by the chain or attached medium and hold it inbetween your index finder and thumb. Rest your arm that is holding the pendulum on a table or firm surface by the elbow and let the pendulum dangle loosely. Ensure that there is enough slack for it to swing freely and without obstruction.

Make sure your hand holding the pendulum is steady and does not move at all, also ensure that pendulum will not be influenced in any way by things such as a fan, open window, or air conditioning unit.

Once you are ready, close your eyes and clear your mind as best you can. It is important that you keep your mind blank. Try to envision however your subconscious mind opening up, almost like a door is opening in the back of your mind. Imagine energy coming out of this open door and shooting up from your mind and into the pendulum.

Try to focus on this for several minutes. The intention of this exercise is to charge the pendulum with your energy, by charging you are making the pendulum more powerful and more accurate.

Once you feel the pendulum is charged enough, open your eyes slowly, and stare at the pendulum, focus on the pendulum point(the end of the pendulum) and then ask the pendulum to show you what it's response will be to a "yes" answer for a question you ask.

For example, you can ask your pendulum "Show me Yes." after you say this, wait and watch which way your pendulum will swing. Some pendulums will swing either back and forth or circular. Whichever way it goes in response to that question will be it's direction for "yes". Do the same for "no"("Show me No") and ensure that the pendulum stops COMPLETELY then begins to turn in the opposite direction. This will then be "no".

Once you have seen the directions in which your pendulum is moving for yes and no answers, you can then begin to ask your questions. Begin by asking obvious questions such as..."do i work at..." or "is my name...." if the pendulum is correct in these answers then ask the questions that want an answer for.

It is always important when you ask your question to try and keep your mind BLANK when you ask. If you focus on the question you can influence the swing of the pendulum with your conscious mind, and it is the subconscious that you want to answer since the subconscious mind is the higher state of mind and holds the true answers that you seek.

If spirits are aiding you in your answers, the pendulum may vary well swing very strongly depending on the strength of the spirit. Spirits however are notorious for giving bad and inaccurate answers on purpose. If it is a good and helpful spirit this can be one of the best ways to get an accurate answers to your question. If however, you have a mischievous or malevolent spirit, they will purposefully make your pendulum reading frustrating and possibly even dangerous.

FINDING A Pendulums

Anything can be used as a Pendulums. The only requirement is that it needs to swing freely while being held in your hand. However, some things may work better for you than others. The more movement you are able to get, the better it is for you to use.

If you don't have a Pendulums, you can use a pendant or ring hung on a chain, a nut or paperclip hanging on a string, or even a needle on a piece of thread. You can use anything that will allow movement. Do not let anything dangle too long because the longer it is, the harder it is to move. Three to four inches is sufficient length, or use what feels right.

Hold the Pendulums in the hand you normally use. The Pendulums should start to move immediately, even if only slightly. If it won't move or is ‘shaky’, it means it is not compatible with your energy. Try a variety of things until you find what works best.

If you can't get any movement, pay attention to your thoughts. Negative thoughts close down your energy and the Pendulums can’t move. Thinking you are unable to move it, or trying to hold your hand still will block your energy. To get movement it is necessary to think positive thoughts about being able to move it. THINK MOVEMENT!

Remember that it is your energy that moves the Pendulums. The more emphatic you are in telling the Pendulums to move, the more movement you should be able to get. However, it does not matter how much movement you get. Any movement will allow you to be able to use the Pendulums successfully.

LEARNING TO USE THE Pendulums

While holding the Pendulums, focus on the first line below and tell your Pendulums to follow the line forward and backward repeatedly. Demand that your Pendulums follow the line EXACTLY. Tell it to move faster, higher, and to stop when you want it to.

Once you are able to receive the first signal, work on receiving each signal one at a time. Take your time with each signal until it responds quickly. Concentrate on the signal you want to receive and don’t let your mind wander. After doing both diagonals, say ‘switch diagonals’ and keep saying it until your Pendulums changes direction again. It can take time for your Pendulums to be able to change direction but when it does, you will realize the POWER OF YOUR THOUGHTS.

Always be aware of what you are thinking because the Pendulums responds to your thoughts EACH MOMENT. Using the Pendulums teaches the connection between your your thoughts and your energy. It also helps you to learn to focus your energy. Practice these basic movements regularly until the Pendulums responds instantly to what you want it to do. WHAT THE MOVEMENTS MEAN

Each of the above signals are different vibrations within you and each can mean something different depending on the context. (Read pages 52-57) Learning to interpret the movements of the Pendulums is essential to the successful use of the Pendulums.

As you pick up the Pendulums, the most common response is a circling movement, either clockwise or counter-clockwise as shown above on the right. It is important to remember that the kind of movement you receive depends on the vibration you are on. A clockwise movement shows a positive energy and a counter-clockwise movement shows a negative energy.

The height and speed of the movement can show you how positive or negative the energy is. The higher the movement the more positive it is for either a clockwise or counter-clockwise movement. A full-out swing is the highest movement. The lower the movement the more negative it is. No movement shows the lowest negative energy and is called an ENERGY BLOCK.

This information can show you how you feel about anyone or anything. Say the name of who or what you want to know about and watch the response of the Pendulums. Anything less than a full out clockwise swing shows negativity involved. DO NOT BLAME YOURSELF when you find negativity about someone or something. That will only lower your energy and decrease the movement of the Pendulums, or even stop movement.

To raise your vibration for anyone or anything, it is necessary to change your thoughts to be more positive. Repeat each possibility and watch the response of the Pendulums. The higher the swing the better it is for you. You can use this process to determine the best the best thing to do, the best thing to say, the best affirmation to use, etc.

If you can’t change your thoughts to raise your energy about anyone or anything, releasing is needed. Being able to find and release the negativity involved with anyone and anything is what this book is about!

FINDING YOUR "YES" & "NO"

Most people begin using the Pendulums by asking questions. To do that, you will need to be able to receive a YES and a NO signal. The most common responses for YES and NO are the first two signals above; the front to back movement for YES and the sideways movement for NO (from a positive vibration). However, it is important to understand these signals can REVERSE if you become distressed; YES being the sideways movement and NO the front to back movement (from a negative vibration). For that reason, it is necessary to ALWAYS begin your work with the Pendulums by finding your YES signal.

To find your YES, ask: “GIVE ME A YES”. Repeat the statement until you get a definite signal. Once you receive a YES signal, your NO should be the opposite signal. To be sure, ask: “GIVE ME A NO”. If you find yourself on a negative vibration, don’t blame yourself for being negative. It is often because of a powerful karmic energy holding you on that vibration. When identified and released, you will probably move to a positive vibration and your signal for YES and NO will change.

ASKING QUESTIONS

When asking a question it is necessary to ask a very specific question that can be answered with a YES or NO. When you receive an answer, if you DOUBT the answer you receive and ask the same question again, you may receive a different answer. What has happened is that doubt has caused your energy to change to a negative vibration and therefore your signals reversed causing you to read the signal wrong. Trust in the first answer received.

The answer you receive to a question being asked shows the energy you are expressing about that question. The answer is NOT ABSOLUTE and may not even be true. It simply shows WHAT YOU BELIEVE TO BE TRUE.

The question then becomes WHERE IS THAT ANSWER COMING FROM? It usually comes from either your LOWER SELF or your HIGHER SELF. To find out where the answer is coming from you can ask for a YES/NO to each. A diagonal response from the right for YES comes from your guide or even God.

If you find you are in tune with your Lower Self, which indicates a negative vibration, it is necessary to either change your thoughts or release to change your energy and connect to your Higher Self. Since it is your energy that manifests, it is important that you express the energy of your Higher Self (positive energy) rather than your Lower Self (negative energy). Your Higher Self is the vibration of your soul, guides, and even God.
